While its still time in the launch of 2019 Apple iPhones, the flagships have continuously been a part of the leak stream, some or the other way. That said, now we have crucial some information suggesting the type of camera setups on the 2019 models.
The well known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, reports that Apple will be upgrading the front camera on the iPhone 11 or the 2019 iPhone series. He also revealed that two variants have a triple camera at the back.
The current Apple iPhones, including the XS, XS Max, and the Xr have a 7MP selfie camera with face ID setup. According to the analysis, the cameras will be upgraded to 12MP in the 2019 phones.
2019 iPhone XS, XS Max
Lately, MacRumors obtained Kuo’s research note to investors, indicating that the successors to the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max will come with a triple camera at the rear. The setup will comprise of a triple 12MP (12MP+12MP+12MP) camera combination.
There will be a 12MP wide-angle lens, followed by a 12MP telephoto lens for 2X optical zoom, similar to the current setup. However, for the third sensor, Apple will be opting for an ultra-wide angle from Sony. Notably, OEMs like Samsung, LG and Huawei have already been offering wide-angle cameras on their phones. On the contrary, previous reports talked of a 3D Time of Flight (ToF) sensor as being the third lens on the 2019 iPhone XS.
His note also says that the new variants of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max will come with “black lens-coating technologies,” on the super-wide-angle lens and the front camera to make them look “inconspicuous” (hidden).
The iPhone Xr Successor
Kuo’s note suggests that the 2019 iPhone XR will continue with the 6.1-inch LCD display and will have a dual camera this time with a 12MP+12MP combination. While the iPhone XR launched with a single 12MP camera at the back, it did bring similar portrait features from the more expensive models. Whereas for the front camera, Apple will for a 12MP (5-element) lens compared to the current 7MP (4-element) lens, he mentioned.
“We forecast the camera upgrade will be one of the new 2H19 iPhone’s major selling points… A super-wide camera will be newly adopted by the triple-camera system, which is equipped with the 12MP/1um CIS provided exclusively by Sony,” says Kuo’s Note.
Previously, it was the Wall Street Journal who reported that the Phone XR successor would come with the dual-rear camera module. Furthermore, the publication also reported that Apple would continue with three iPhones for 2019 as well. It will retain the same display sizes while offering improvements in the camera department.
Apple lately has never been able to compete with Google’s Pixel line-up as far as the camera is concerned. With the recent launch of Huawei P30 Pro, the competition is even stiffer now! Hence, Apple needs to amp up its camera hardware, as well as the software to cope with the advancing competitors. It’ll be interesting to see how does the 2019 iPhone 11 fare against the P30 Pro and the upcoming Pixel 4.
