The price war is getting keener between rival internet service providers like Airtel, Idea Cellular, and Vodafone. Taking a cue from its competitors like Airtel and Idea, Vodafone follows suit and is offering 67% more data for its 2G, 3G, and 4G services.

Under the revised tariff plans, the 3GB monthly recharge pack for 3G and 4G services is now offering 5GB data for the same price i.e. Rs. 650, a whopping 67% increase. In the same way, the Rs. 449 for 3G/4G will offer 3GB instead of 2GB, an increase of 50%. The Rs.999 pack for 3G or 4G will now offer 10GB data which again is an increase of more than 54%.

The smaller tariff plans have also been revised. The Rs. 39 2G pack is now offering 225MB data instead of the earlier 160GB with a validity of five days while the Rs.12 3G/4G pack is now offering 50 MB data against the previous offer 30MB with a validity of one day.

The major players are taking guard and preempting the threat by Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio which has chopped the price tag of its 4G LYF sets by more than 25% and is now available for Rs. 2,999. The handset comes with a complimentary Jio SIM, and that is not all. Reliance is also offering a 90 day free and unlimited 4G mobile internet and voice calling facility with its SIM cards.

India is the second-biggest cellphone market in the world, and all service providers are going all out to get its share in the pie. Jio already has more than 1.5 million consumers in its beta tests and is expected to offer high-speed data at a very economical price, or better could combine free voice calls to attract users.

The latest move comes only a fortnight after both Airtel and Idea slashed their data costs. The latest move will offer affordable internet for those consumers who use the web sparingly and also encourage new users to become web savvy.

Vodafone India Director said that the latest offers would help the customers to get the exclusive experience to their full. The 67% addition of data n the prepaid packs will encourage a faster and wider adoption and utilization of data. Experts are of the opinion that service providers are not reducing the rates directly but instead offering more data for the same price. It is crucial for the providers to protect their average revenue per user and at the same time luring the non-using the public to the web.
