OnePlus doesn’t really have a very impressive track record with software support in the past. As OnePlus 3 and OnPlus 3T owners were in the dilemma whether their handset would get any software update in the future. But now it seems that all the doubt has been clear, as the company’s senior executive has confirmed that both the devices will get Android O. However, he also mentions that after this update users will not get any further OS update for OnePlus 3 and 3T.
This confirmation is provided in a QandA session in which company’s head of product, Oliver Z said: “Android O is going to be the last Android version update we’ll release for OnePlus 3 and 3T. We’ll continue to release security patch updates for the foreseeable future, and offer support for individual application updates. The August security patches for the OnePlus 3 and 3T are going to be released “soon” while the OxygenOS 4.5 build will be out in the next 1-2 months.”
This indeed is good news for OnePlus 3/3T owners as they are eagerly waiting for this major OS update. It is highly probable that Google will release Android O in next couple of weeks and the new firmware will be available for the 3/3T owners by the end of this year. Android O is expected to come with a lot of new features and better battery optimization. The public version of Android 8.0 will be out for Pixel and Nexus devices in Q3, most likely in late August or early September.
Android O has been undergoing testing and has already rolled out four developer previews and it is expected that this latest OS will come with features like Adaptive notification dots, Persistent background apps notification, Picture-in-Picture mode, Smart Text Selection, Auto-Fill, and LDAC audio codec.
