Google’s Allo messaging service could be default on Android 7.0 Nougat

Word on the tech street is that Google might be contemplating making its newest messaging app Allo an integral element of the forthcoming Android 7.0 Nougat.

Of course, this is mere speculation at the moment with there being no conclusive evidence to back the development. Our biggest bet at the moment is a Reddit post made by one LTNGNX claiming Allo to be made the default messaging app on Android Nougat. That apart, there has also been reports of Allo being included in some build of Android where again the app is being simply referred to as ‘messaging’. This has further reinforced the belief that the app will be default on Nougat.

Google had announced both the Allo and Duo apps during its developers’ conference held a few months back. According to Google, the biggest USP of Allo is that it comes with smart attributes built into it that make available almost all of Google’s service from within the chat application itself.

That includes Google Assistant with which users can enter into friendly conversations and get such tasks done like booking a cab, ordering for flowers and so on.

Duo, on the other hand, allows for HD quality video messaging, which Google claims can be accomplished over unreliable networks as well. It’s just that the video quality gets downgraded depending on the network.

However, while there is no way we can be sure if Allo will indeed be baked into Nougat, Google has made it amply clear its current messaging service, Hangout is here to stay. That applies perhaps more to the business community that still rely big time on Hangout.

General users meanwhile had long migrated to other messaging services such as WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger. Hangout is already deeply entrenched into almost all of Google’s services, and it remains to be seen if Google will go for phased replacement of Hangout with the new Allo, if reports of Allo being made default to Nougat is indeed true.
