The demand for full-scale SUVs is gradually increasing among the Indian car buyers. This is motivating the car manufacturers to bring their respective SUVs in the country. The two most anticipated SUVs to launch in India are 2017 Skoda Kodiaq, 2016 Toyota Fortuner.
Skoda Kodiaq 2017
Skoda Kodiaq is scheduled to be launched in India by the end of 2017. The manufacturer is working aggressively with the car which will be released in the international market early next year. Skoda is building the upcoming car on its VisionS concept SUV. The VisionS concept was first unveiled publicly at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.
The 7-seater SUV is manufactured based on Volkswagen’s MQB system of engine orientation. The forthcoming car will be Skoda’s largest SUV ever. The Indian version of the car is expected to be assembled at Volkswagen’s facility in Pune. The company recently brought a new generation Superb in the country and had plans for at least four more cars.
The Skoda Kodiaq will be powered by the same engines present in the company’s Octavia and Superb. The petrol version will get the 1.8-litre TSI engine, while the diesel version shall pack in the 2.0-litre TDI one. The former will generate a maximum power of 180 PS and a peak torque of 250 Nm. The diesel variant will generate a maximum of 177 PS power combined with 350 Nm torque.
The seven seater SUV is presumed to be about 4.7 meters long. The length of the car suggests that it will almost certainly have three seating rows. An optional all-wheel drive variant of the Kodiaq will also be sold in India. The upcoming car will feature two types of transmissions – 6 speed manual DSG and seven-speed automatic DSG.
The price of the Skoda Kodiaq is presumed to start from around Rs.30 lakhs for the base model up to approximately Rs.32 lakhs for the top-end one.
2016 Toyota Fortuner
The 2016 version of the popular Toyota Fortuner is one of the most awaited SUV in the Indian market. The car was expected to arrive in the country at the end of this year. But due to the ban on diesel vehicles over 2000cc, the company postponed the launch until the next year. The car will sport LED DRLs, projector headlamps and chrome grills with revamped tail lamps with LED. The car will feature 18-inch alloy wheels with an updated design language.
The upcoming Fortuner will have three engine variants. Two of them will be diesel variant with 2.4 liters and 2.8 liters capacity respectively. The former will produce a maximum power of around 148 PS and 400 Nm of torque. The larger diesel engine will ramp up to 175 PS of power with 450 Nm torque. The petrol engine will have a volume of 2.7 liters.
The brand new Toyota Fortuner’s transmission options will include 6-speed automatic and 6-speed manual transmission. The 2.8-liter variant will also get the all-wheel driving capability. The forthcoming car will be priced between Rs. 28 lakh and Rs. 32 lakh.
