India-bound Volkswagen Tiguan XL 7-seater SUV coming next year

Volkswagen will reportedly launch a 7-seater variant of the VW Tiguan SUV in India in the first half 2017. The version has now been spotted without camouflage for the first time, suggesting that the SUV is expected to make it’s global debut in the near future.

The upcoming 7-seater model of the VW Tiguan will reportedly feature an extended wheelbase expected to be around 110 mm longer compared to the standard Tiguan. The German manufacturer has used this extended wheelbase to add a third row of seats. Compared to its 5-seater version, the VW Tiguan 7-seater model sports a slightly redesigned grille with chrome accents and an entirely new bumper with silver treatment. On its sides, the SUV flaunts a redesigned greenhouse, extra claddings and a new set of alloy wheels.

While the back of the SUV looks exactly like its 5-seater model. The increased wheel-base makes the Tiguan look more like a cross-over rather than an SUV. The 7-seater VW Tiguan also offers additional boot space, which can be extended by folding rear seats, giving it added practicality for markets such as India and China.

The VW Tiguan will lock horns against the likes of Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Pajero in the Indian market. It will be offered in two options – a 1.8-litre TSI petrol and 2.0-litre TDI diesel and is expected to be priced in between the range of Rs. 28 lakh to Rs. 35 lakh in India.
