Google Maps adds Street View of Rio Olympics 2016 venue: Here’s how to use it

Not all of us can make it to Brazil this summer for Rio Olympics 2016. Though worry not as Google has you covered, and wants to make you feel a part of the extravaganza. The search engine giant is giving users virtual tours for the 25 official indoor Olympic venues along with 12 outdoor ones via Google Maps.

The company has launched digital details for all of Rio 2016’s indoor and outdoor venues, which essentially allows anyone with access to the Internet get a virtual tour of every official Rio Olympic Venue. It’s a collection of a set of Maps specially created for the Olympics, which includes detailed mapping and street view images.

All of Rio 2016 Olympics venue, both indoor and outdoor can now be explored which were recently added in the new Maps update. Primarily aimed at those who can’t physically make it the games to feel a part of the action.

“For folks on the ground in Rio, Maps can be your real-world assistant, helping you get where you’re going via whichever mode of transportation you prefer. For those who really want to feel like they’re in the game, we also launched indoor maps of all 25 official indoor venues and added more details to the maps of the 12 outdoor venues – like the custom-made golf course where you can now practically see all 18 holes. With the Explore feature on Google Maps for Android and iOS in Brazil, anyone can uncover the local gems wherever you go by simply tapping “Explore food & drinks near you” at the bottom of the app. From there you can swipe through the best breakfast, lunch, coffee, dinner, and drinks spots around them”, reads Google’s official blog post.

Besides, Google will also be streaming video broadcast highlights of Rio Olympics 2016 through YouTube in over 60 countries. In addition, Google will also offer users access to all information from the summer games. Users can catch up on all the details in its ‘Search’, from athletes, participating teams, medals won and more.

How to watch Rio 2016 in Indian online?

Users in India can watch the Olympic Games online on StarSports.com or their digital content arm – Hotstar. The latter will broadcast Rio 2016 across the three week period.

Users on the move can make the most of the Hotstar App which will have 14 different streams offering both Indian content as well as international content. Hotstar has also allocated space for separate broadcasts of both Indian and international athletes.
