Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has been released in India on August 11 at Rs. 59,900. As expected, Samsung has skipped one generation and named it Note 7. The move is part of the upcoming iPhone 7 release since Samsung hopes that the Note series should not stand out from the crowd. Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will be available for sale from September 2 onwards. However, you can pre-order the device from August 22 to 30. To attract customers, Samsung is offering Samsung Gear VR for Rs. 1,990 for all customers who pre-order the device. In the US, the same Gear VR headset is given as a freebie with an option to select either the headset or a 256GB microSD card.
During the launch event, we had a quick spin with the brand new smartphone to see how it feels in hand.
Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Design
Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is designed with a combination of glass and metal. The smartphone feels like a larger Galaxy S7 Edge. If you work with the handset, you will notice that the curved glass panels on the front and on the rear side meet together at the metal frame towards the middle. However, you will notice that the Note 7 has refined narrow curves.
The new Galaxy Note 7 integrates a USB Type-C port, which enables you to quickly charge the device. However, unlike Le 2, you cannot use the port for audio purpose as well.
The main attraction of the Galaxy Note 7 is the integration of an Iris sensor, which enables you to use your eyes for unlocking the device. You will not notice the scanner on the front body since Samsung has deeply infused it into the sleek design. Moreover, the device also features water-resistant body with IP68 certification, enhanced S-Pen and a fingerprint scanner.
The S-Pen included with the device come with a thinner tip than the previous counterparts and is capable of detecting 4096 levels of pressure. Towards the bottom, you will find the headphone jack, the USB Type-C port, and the speaker grills. The volume adjustment buttons are located on the left, while the power right finds the place on the right side.
Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Display
Samsung Galaxy Note 7 features a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a massive resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. The pixel density of 518PPI enables you to read content clearly. We noticed that the display produced vivid colors and adequate brightness to work outdoors. Interestingly, Samsung has added a new feature with which you will be able to decrease the resolution to either HD or Full HD depending upon your requirements.
Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Performance
As expected, the Galaxy Note 7 is equipped with Exynos 8890 octa-core processor, 4GB RAM coupled with a Mali-T880 MP12 graphics. On the storage front, the handset is equipped with 64GB of UFS 2.0 storage capable of expansion up to 256GB. However, for this price we expected 6GB RAM since you will find plenty of 3GB and 4GB RAM devices on the market for a budget price.
Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Camera and Battery
Samsung Galaxy Note 7 features the same 12MP rear camera as on the S7 and S7 edge. The sensor offers a f/1.7 aperture and OIS paired with dual-pixel autofocus technology and support for capturing 4K videos. The device includes a 5MP front-facing snapper with f/1.7 aperture. Samsung should have bundled 8MP front camera. Considering the massive cost of the device, the mere 5MP doesn’t look promising.
Samsung Galaxy Note 7 provides a 3500mAh battery with fast charging technology in addition to supporting for wireless charging. According to Samsung, the device has an ability to tolerate one full day of battery life.
Samsung Galaxy Note 7 OS and Connectivity Features
If you purchase the Galaxy Note 7, you will be able to experience Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow on top of Samsung’s TouchWiz UI. The notification shade gets better with the integration of a blue light filter alongside always on display. You can also play HDR content. Samsung also added a special security safe zone that can be accessed only using the Iris scanner.
On the connectivity front, the Galaxy Note 7 offers LTE, hybrid SIM slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB Type-C and GPS.
Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is an excellent device with great specifications and features. If you can shell out Rs. 59,900, you can buy the device. The device will be useful if you prefer to use Iris scanner regularly. However, you should also note about the potential health issue which will cause as a result of the scanner. The device will be available from September 2. It would be great if Samsung provides Gear VR headset free of cost for all pre-orders. This is essential because customers expect some kind of freebies since a lot of money is at stake here.
