Reliance Jio to offer 10GB 4G mobile data at Rs 93 starting next week

In a letter to the Department of Telecom (DoT), Reliance Communications announced that it would be offering 4G data services over its Reliance Jio network. The network provider will offer data packages as high as 10GB per month at a starting price of Rs. 93.

The prices for the 4G package of 10GB per month will differ according to regions varying between the starting price of Rs. 93 going up to Rs. 97.

Reliance Communications has mentioned in their letter that their 4G services will be made available to their CDMA customers beginning next week. The upgrade will be made available to existing customers who had previously opted to be a part of the 4G upgrade.

According to reports and statements given out by the company, around 90% of its CDMA user base opted for the upgrade.

The move will enable Reliance Communications to offer 4G services with data caps that are far higher than competitors at present, amounting to a 94% cut over regular 4G prices.

Beginning next week, Reliance CDMA customers will be able to use 4G services in the network circles of Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Gujarat, Kolkata, Maharashtra, Mumbai, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and East and West UP.

By mid-July, the company expects to expand its reach for 4G services to an additional six circles including Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, and Rajasthan. By mid-August, Reliance Communications will look to serve the country with its 4G services.

Reliance Communications liberalized their 850MHz spectrum, which allows them to use cross-functional technology to provide data services to mobiles with Reliance Jio. The company has reportedly spent a total of Rs. 6,600 crore buying liberalized spectrum as well as getting into agreements for spectrum-sharing with other network providers.

As Reliance Jio’s network services are upgraded, Reliance’s older CDMA handsets will not work on the tweaked network. Reliance also says that it will look to phase out its CDMA services over the coming few months.
