Screenshots of the web version of Google Play music are indicating that Google’s streaming and buying service is all set to enter the country. Some Reddit users have also posted screenshots which have listed the price of the music albums in rupees. A user tried to purchase the album but encountered an error which indicates that as of now, there is a partial access to the web version.
Launched in 2011, Google Play music offers unlimited downloading and streaming in the US for $9.99 per month. For the Indian market, they might have to revise the price rates in order to ensure effective penetration within the user base.
India is currently offering one of the biggest smartphone user base in the world. Therefore, last year, we witnessed the launch of Apple’s music streaming service- Apple Music and since then, people have been waiting for Google Play music. However, it still feels as if Google is running a little late with the launch.
So currently, Google Play is available in around 58 countries and offer its users with more than 35 million songs. But when it is officially launched in India, it can expect tough competition from Apple Music and some ‘in house’ music streaming apps like Saavn, Hungama, and Gaana.
Interestingly, another Reddit user also posted a screenshot of a YouTube Red notification. Now YouTube Red is YouTube’s tool which offers uninterrupted streaming service wherein the users can watch videos sans ads and play music while their screen is off.
Recently, YouTube had also launched the ‘Offline’ feature wherein the users can download videos which can be viewed later in the offline mode as well. The number one video hosting company also informed that it would be rolling out live streaming capability for content creators, straight from their app itself.
