With most manufacturers including Samsung now in the process of rolling out the Android Nougat update for their devices, the focus gradually seems to be shifting to the next Android version down the line. Purportedly called the Android O, and while the iteration is yet to have an official name, that isn’t stopping it from making its appearance on a few handsets already.
Galaxy S8 rumored to get first dibs on Android O
Sure nothing has been set in stone just yet but there are reasons to believe the Android O update would be reaching a few of Samsung’s handsets soon. And needless to say, those would be flagship devices to begin with, which means it is the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus that have the highest probability of getting the update before others.
In fact, this happens to be a trend that Samsung follows with each forthcoming version of Android and with its flagship devices of the time. For instance, the South Korean conglomerate had launched a Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge version running the beta version of Nougat.
Prior to that, there was also a Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and Note 5 version running Android Marshmallow that was released to a select audience in a limited scale. There could have been a Note 7 as well running Marshmallow though perhaps the device started to catch fire before that could happen.
The Android Nougat successor that is being referred to as simply Android O at the moment is expected to be launched towards the end of the year, as is the usual practice with every Android iteration. However, the same has already made it to Pixel and Nexus devices.
So anyone eager to catch an early glimpse of Android O will have to turn to Pixel or the Nexus. Another option for them is to wait for Samsung to announce the launch of an S8 version running the upcoming Android build. Of course, Samsung hasn’t made any official announcements on this front though anything of that sort should be arriving soon.
Samsung meanwhile has already rolled out a rather comprehensive OTA update that among others, is expected to solve the red tint issue with the S8 displays. The update that weighs 426.7 MB also comes with the usual stability and bug fixes as well.
