Samsung is reportedly working with a brand new SoC in for its own Exynos line-up. The leaked processor will be the successor of the Samsung Exynos 8890 and will probably be named as Exynos 8895. The octa-core processor is seen to sport two processing clusters. The high-performance cluster has four powerful cores each running at a test frequency of 4.0 GHz. The other power saving cluster of four ARM Cortex A53 cores are also tested at a pretty high frequency of 2.3 GHz each. The Samsung Exynos 8890 is expected to be manufactured using the efficient 10 nm process.
You should not expect these phenomenal clock speeds in the retail version of the chipset. Samsung is just testing it at such high clock speeds in an attempt to pull the processor to its limit. This will help in better thermal adjustments in the SoC and cancel out the chances of overheating. The company had also done similar testing with the present Samsung Exynos 8890 by clocking it up till 3.0 GHz. In reality, the processor runs at a much lower frequency of 2.3 GHz.
The leak has been put out in Weibo by a tipster, who mentioned that the upcoming processor will utilize the latest 10 nm manufacturing process. He claims that running at 4.0 GHz clock speed, the Samsung Exynos 8895’s power consumption is identical to the upcoming Snapdragon 830 clocked at 3.6 GHz. Qualcomm is also expected to use the brand new 10 nm process to manufacture the Snapdragon 830.
Samsung’s latest processor will almost certainly power the forthcoming Galaxy S8. The future flagship is expected to be launched early next year. The S8 is rumored to sport a dual curved display similar to the recently launched Galaxy Note 7. From the next flagship, Samsung is speculated to get rid of the Edge moniker and exclusively adopt the curved display as the default option.
As the case with every Samsung flagship, the S8 is also presumed to come in two processor variants. One would be powered by the in-house Samsung Exynos 8895 and another would sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon 830. With the S8, the Korean giant is likely to put more emphasis on Virtual Reality. The upcoming smartphone may sport 4K display resolution for optimum VR use.
The high-resolution display along with VR capabilities will require a lot of horsepower. The forthcoming processors are trying hard to keep up with demand for increased performance. We have to wait till the launch of the Galaxy S8 next year to first gauge the power of the mighty Samsung Exynos 8895.
