Nokia is gearing up to release Android smartphones after a disappointing innings with Lumia. According to latest reports, Nokia D1C smartphone with 3GB RAM and Android 7.0 Nougat has been spotted on Geekbench. The handset will be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm processor clocked at 1.4GHz paired with 3GB RAM.
There are reports that multiple benchmark tests were conducted on D1C and the results were uploaded on September 30. The results reveal a single-core score from 656 to 667 and a multi-core score from 3120 to 3299. The test results will vary based on situations.
Nokia D1C will ship with 3GB RAM
Moreover, the handset with Motherboard ID MSM8937 will be powered by an octa-core arm Qualcomm processor clocked at 1.4GHz alongside 3GB RAM (2823MB) loaded Android 7.0 Nougat. As of writing this, we don’t have any information about the other specifications of the phone.
New Nokia Android smartphone will be manufactured by HMD global Oy
Commenting on the development, a spokesperson of Nokia disclosed that under a strategic agreement covering branding rights and intellectual property licensing, the company has granted HMD global Oy (HMD) an exclusive global license to create Nokia-branded mobile phones and tablets for the next ten years. Interestingly, HMD is also a newly established company based in Finland.
In May 2016, Nokia had announced that they are planning to return to the smartphone and tablet segment. Previously, there were reports which signaled the fact that Nokia is working on two new flagship smartphones. We spotted Nokia 5320 and Nokia RM-1490 on Geekbench, which was listed with entry level specifications.
Nokia 5320 will be better than RM-1490
On the specifications front, Nokia 5320 will be powered by a 2.27GHz quad-core processor paired with 2GB RAM. On the other hand, Nokia RM-1490 will most likely ship with a single-core 500MHz AMD A8-5545M processor and 2GB RAM.
There are rumors that RM-1490 will be loaded with an Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean but this is a weak possibility since the platform is very much out-dated. If you compare the specifications, you can see that Nokia 5320 will ship with improved specifications when compared to Nokia RM-1490.
When contacted, Nokia declined to respond whether the company is going to launch premium handsets or settle with mid-range phones. We infer that Nokia will launch a combination of mid and premium smartphone to cater to all sections of people.
It will be tough for Nokia to regain trust among customers especially after the dismal performance of Lumia smartphones. Even though the Finland-based company released several Lumia handsets, the company never gained more than 10 percent market share.
