NASA say’s July 2016 is warmest on record in 136 years

NASA

According to NASA, the July 2016 recorded the warmest temperature in 136 years. The stunning revelation was made in a monthly analysis of global temperatures conducted by the American space agency. When compared with previous records, the July 2016 posted severe temperature. According to researchers, the phenomenon is as a result of severe climate change across the world. Moreover, it has occurred for the first time in the last 136 years of modern record-keeping. The detailed analysis was carried out by NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York. The report has blamed the sharp rise in the seasonal temperature cycle for the acute rise in heat during the month of July 2016. The researchers attributed the reason for the extreme weather due to the urban flooding in Ellicott City and record flooding in China.

July 2016 temperature rise only a small margin

When compared to 2015, the temperatures of July 2016 increased by a small margin. According to NASA sources, the temperature recorded in July 2016 was marginally small 0.1 degrees celsius warmer than the recorded temperatures in 2015, 2011 and 2009

Commenting on the development, GISS director Gavin Schmidt revealed that July 2016 was the warmest month since modern record keeping began in 1880. If the current trend continues, it is almost certain that 2016 will also be the warmest year on record.

The US-based space agency, meanwhile, disclosed that the record month of July continued a streak of ten consecutive months dating back to October 2015 that have set new monthly high-temperature records. In contrast with the previous years, the warmest global temperatures of July 2016 were mostly recorded in the northern hemisphere, particularly near the Arctic region.

Responding to media, Jason Furtado, a meteorology professor at the University of Oklahoma said that the situation is little alarming considering the previous year figures. Moreover, Simon Donner, professor of climatology at the University of British Columbia added that each month gives another benchmark point for the future.

Arctic region showed huge increase

In July 2016, many parts of the land and ocean were warmer than normal. However, parts of the Arctic region were more than 7-degrees above average. The extra high temperature was recorded in the Middle East, Mitribah, and Kuwait with the temperature skyrocketed to 129.2-degrees. This denotes the hottest temperature ever recorded in the Eastern Hemisphere.

NASA’s findings vetted by Japan Meteorological Agency

In the meantime, an independent analysis of the global temperature from the Japan Meteorological Agency ratified the findings of NASA. Even though there was so much talk about El Nino in 2015, the current data doesn’t have any significance to the effect. In fact, the data gathered in 2016 have crushed the records set in previous El Ninos.
