Microsoft Surface Pro 5: Features, specification and release date revealed

Microsoft is expected to launch Surface Pro 5 in October soon as the launch of Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPad. However, there are rumors floating around the web about the features and specifications.

According to sources, the upcoming Surface Pro 5 will be similar to that of the recently announced Asus Transformer 3 Pro. Even though there will not be any major changes on the display front, the Surface Pro 5 will also be available in a higher display variant.

Microsoft is reportedly working on to launch a 14-inch Surface tablet, which will provide support for advanced 4K Ultra HD display with a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels.

Surface Pro 5: Intel seventh-gen Kaby Lake processor, 16GB RAM, 512GB eMMC storage

Talking about specifications, the Surface Pro 5 is expected to be shipped with an Intel seventh-gen Kaby Lake processor, up to 16GB RAM, up to 512GB eMMC storage space including a 16MP rear camera coupled with an 8MP front-facing snapper.

If Kaby Lake was not released by August end, you can expect the device to bear an upgraded Skylake Intel chipset. According to reports, the upcoming Surface Pro 5 will be more efficient in terms of overall energy consumption without compromising performance. Moreover, the clock speed of the processor will be set to 4.0GHz with maximum turbo boost speed of 4.2GHz to provide desktop-like performance.

Microsoft to launch mobile and desktop versions of Surface Pro 5

However, Microsoft will launch both mobile and desktop versions of Surface Pro 5. While the mobile version will be powered with a Core M and Core i5 processor, the desktop variant will feature high-end specifications with a possibility of 1TB storage.

If rumors are to be believed, Microsoft will also integrate a dedicated AMD graphics processor codenamed Polaris, or NVIDIA’s Pascal along with Surface Pro 5.

Microsoft is also planning to release the upcoming Surface tablet with Windows 10 Redstone 2. Moreover, the stylus pen bundled with the device will have improved sensitivity than the previous counterparts.

In addition to the above mentioned rumored specifications, the Surface Pro 5 will also include a USB Type-C port, which enables you to charge the device faster.

While the core i5 variant of Pro 5 will start from $899, the premium i7 Extreme variant is expected to be priced at $1,599. Microsoft is also gearing up to release Surface Phone with high-end specifications.

Like the previous year, the new Surface Pro 5 will also be launched in October in the US and UK. We expect the launch of the tablet in India in January 2017.
