Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) just introduced a brand new offer for its customers. With the latest offer, any BSNL landline user can make unlimited free calls to any network on every Sunday. The offer will start next week from the Independence Day on August 15. A few months ago, the state-owned telephone provider announced unlimited free night calling from its landlines. Exactly like the latest offer, the free night calling offer includes calls made to any landline or cell phone across India from 9 pm to 7 am.
The upcoming offer has been approved by the authorizing committee at the CFA (Consumer Fixed Access). The committee has allowed BSNL to give out free unlimited calls to all of its landline users at every part of the country.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has announced this in a press statement saying –
The competent authority on recommendation of tariff committee – CFA (Consumer Fixed Access) has approved unlimited free calling from BSNL landline to any network’s mobile and landline on all Sundays on pan India basis with effect from August 15, 2016.
The new offer comes with a validity of 90 days from the starting date of 15th August. During this promotional period, there is an additional offer for new connections. Every fresh landline connection activated during this time range need to pay a rebated monthly charge of only Rs. 49. BSNL spokesperson has clarified that both the Sunday offer and night offer can be availed simultaneously.
Since the introduction of cellular mobile devices, demand for landline has been steadily declining. On top of being more convenient, cell phones have now become very affordable. Getting a cell phone connection is also much easier and hassle free. So, the landline is gradually diminishing from domestic use. Only commercial places still rely on landline telephones. But stiff competition from private company’s like Reliance, Airtel, Tata has rapidly declined the market shares of BSNL.
The government-owned company is losing more landline consumers regularly than gaining new users. The decline of market share in both domestic and commercial areas has forced BSNL to launch attractive offers to attract more consumers and hold on current users.
India is the second largest telecommunication system in the world with only China standing ahead of it. Combining both wireless and landline subscribers, there are over a billion telephone users in the country. As in May 2016, there are over 1058 million telephone users, out of which less than 25 million people use landline connection. As the number of mobile users are progressively increasing every year, the landline is gradually losing out its consumer base.
