Apple iPhone 2017 release date, rumors: All-glass model and A11 processor

Hon Hai Precision Industry, popularly known as Foxconn Technology Group, is reportedly developing a glass casing for the Apple iPhone 2017. As per the previous two-year product cycle, Apple iPhone 2017 is expected to be equipped with a fresh design coupled with plenty of new features. According to sources, Apple will not integrate advanced features in the upcoming iPhone 7. This is because Apple product team would like to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Apple’s flagship smartphone in a grand style in 2017 with plenty of new features. According to sources based in Taiwan who are familiar with Apple’s supply chain mechanism, Foxconn has been working hard to develop glass casings for Apple iPhone 2017. The company has been building the casings since 2015 since they are finding difficult to find the correct glass casing for the iPhone 2017.

Foxconn is responsible for the development and assembling of the iPhone and iPhone Plus models. Moreover, the company also supplies metal casing for the Apple iPhone 6s Plus and the Apple iPhone SE. There are reports that Apple had already given the contract to Foxconn to supply metal casings for the Apple iPhone 7 Plus.

iPhone 2017 Specifications

In addition to Foxconn, Taiwan’s Catcher Technologies and Jabil Circuits from the US along supply casing for various iPhone models. On the specifications front, the iPhone 2017 will feature a premium glass casing with a metal frame and an AMOLED display.

Till recently, Apple was making use of traditional IPS LED displays. However, Apple will integrate Super AMOLED display to compete with Samsung Galaxy devices. However, if Apple integrated AMOLED display in 2017, it will not be a new development since Samsung has been using this display for over last several years.

According to rumors, the iPhone 2017 is expected to offer Touch ID fingerprint scanner, which will be embedded inside the display. It will look as such that it will cover the entire front of the device.

Responding to media, an unconfirmed tech news source disclosed that it is only natural that Foxconn is attempting to design a glass chassis. This is because the addition of advanced chassis and other components will strengthen the base of the company within the supply chain. Moreover, it will increase the potential number of orders.

Foxconn’s Performance

In 2015, Foxconn posted a record net profit of 146.86 billion New Taiwan dollars ($4.67 billion) due to the intense popularity of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Furthermore, Foxconn generates over 50 percent of its total sales from Apple.

According to industry analysts, the upcoming iPhones will be a game changer with the addition of OLED display panels and glass casings with metal frames. This will provide the devices with a sleek look and feel including reduction of energy.

If Apple manages to integrate new OLED displays, it will be a huge milestone for the company since it will be a departure from the currently used metal chassis and low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) panels in the forthcoming iPhone 7 and the currently available iPhone 6 variants.
