Apple iPhone 8 to feature curved OLED display similar to Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

Apple is expected to launch three iPhone 8 models in 2017. Earlier, there were reports that the Cupertino-based company will launch only two variants of iPhone 2017. The third iPhone device, which is rumored to release in 2017, will feature a curved OLED display similar to that of the Edge versions of Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones. According to a report released by Japan’s Nikkei, Apple will release a standard 4.7-inch model followed by a 5.5-inch variant of premium iPhone 2017. The rumored third device will either offer a 5.5-inch display or even a 6-inch screen. Moreover, there are reports that the display of the third device will have a bent on the two sides. The first two models, however, will have a flat screen display.

Although we don’t have any confirmation about the integration of OLED display, a curved screen requires this technology. Hence, we assume that Apple will most likely integrate OLED panel instead of traditional LED display. If you look at the Galaxy S7 Edge, the device comes with a Super AMOLED panel.

At this point in time, we don’t have any specific information as to whether the other two iPhone 2017 will flaunt OLED display. However, the possibility is very slim, and the first two devices will continue to depend on the conventional LTPS (low temperature polysilicon) panels.

Commenting on the development, David Hsieh, a senior director at IHS DisplaySearch reportedly told Nikkei that the curved iPhone 2017 would have an OLED display panel. He also revealed that Samsung would be the supplier of OLED panels to Apple. However, it remains to be seen whether the Samsung will be able to meet the required demand of Apple.

If rumors are to be believed, Apple iPhone 2017 will ship with edge-to-edge display panel integrated with Touch ID and camera enhancements. There are talks about the addition of a glass panel.

Apple iPhone 7 Features

With only a few days left for the official release of iPhone 7, Apple is scheduled to release the standard and Plus variants of the new device. Earlier, there were talks on the rumor mills about the possible release of Pro model. However, Apple has reportedly shelved the idea to release three models since the company wants to reserve something big for 2017 to celebrate its 10th anniversary of iPhone.

Talking about the specifications, the iPhone 7 will be available in 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch display models with Apple A10 processor. It’s almost certain that Apple will eliminate 16GB default storage to accommodate 32GB based on the latest technological trends.

Apple will also ditch the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack to integrate a lightning port connector. Moreover, the upcoming model will have one additional speaker on the bottom, probably in the same place as the headphone jack. You need not have to expect huge design improvements in iPhone 7 except few changes in the internals.

Even before the launch of iPhone 7, few unknown third-party manufacturer has started to build cases and bumpers for the upcoming device.
