Taiwanese Company Asus has now started rolling out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for Asus Zenfone Selfie (ZD551KL) and Zenfone Zoom (ZX551KL).
Back in the month of February, the company had promised to roll the update for some of its handsets. So, last month, Zenfone 2 Laser and Zenfone Max were amongst the company’s devices to receive the update. As the company decided to announce the update via its ZenTalk Forum, Zenfone Selfie and Zenfone Zoom, both the devices will have to download the update manually from the official website.
Talking about the update, there will be an array of new features i.e. Google Calendar, Google messenger, and Motion Gesture. In addition, for a better camera experience, the camera app will now include the new Pano sphere mode as well.
And after the update, the Zenfone Zoom will come with a list of preloaded apps such as Facebook Messenger and Instagram. The update also ensures some of the apps will no longer be preloaded. For Zenfone Selfie and Zenfone Zoom, apps like Asus backup, Remote link, PC Link, Photo frame, Google Play games, Google Play Newsstand and SnapView will not be preloaded but these apps will still be available on the Google Play Store.
Unlike most other smartphone manufacturers, Asus will also keep the bloatware to the bare minimum. The company has informed that after the Marshmallow update, Zenfone Selfie will function without Asus Email, Asus Calendar, Asus Browser, Asus messaging and Asus Music after factory reset. Even though these apps do not cover a lot of storage, but their removal will hand over more customisation options for the users which is definitely a good step.
However, the company has also informed that after the update, the users won’t be able to transfer the apps to the MicroSD card as Android Marshmallow does not support this feature. So, it will be beneficial if the user transfers all the apps to the internal storage before the commencement of the system upgrade.
