Android Nougat features: ‘Flowered’ Home button to have integrated Google Assistant

Android 7.0 Nougat has been doing several rounds of news in the rumor mills for the past several weeks. The latest revelation from Android Police, as per a leaked image, is that Android 7.0 Nougat will be most likely integrated with a flowered animated home button, which will be tied to the Google Assistant.

Initially, you will happen to view a large White colored dot home button. However, if you long press on the home button, the animation will be triggered. During the process, you will view four colored dots popping out of the button, which signals the arrival of Google Assistant.

In the current version, if you long press on the home button, it will trigger Now on Tap. There are reports that this feature will be most likely tied to Google Assistant/New on Tap since disabling Now will also remove the animation.

Even though the new feature of animated home button is revealed, it will not be available publicly at the launch. This is because Assistant is currently under development and will be launched alongside Google’s upcoming Nexus devices.

New Launcher

According to Android Police, the upcoming Google Nexus devices codenamed Marlin and Sailfish will be equipped with a new Android 7.0 Nougat launcher.

The Android 7.0 will eliminate the drawer icon, which reveals the shortcut of all the installed apps. The icon has been replaced by a small upward-facing arrow that opens the drawer immediately when tapped. You will have to swipe up from the launcher’s bottom bezel.

In the meantime, you will view a window, which is translucent and fades in as it follows your finger upward. If you roll back your memory, the Android 2.2 Froyo also introduced a similar app drawer with the same functionality. It will be interesting to know what prompted Google to add this feature again in Android 7.0 Nougat.

Google Search box replaced

The Android 7.0 Nougat will not be equipped with the Google Search box on the Android home screen. It has been replaced with a persistent right-hand calendar widget that will display the date and day of the week.

On the left side of the home screen, you will view a big icon with “G” lettering. As of now, this icon will not serve any purpose. It will be upgraded with Google Assistant in the future.

Android 7.0 Nougat

The Google Assistant is an automated artificial intelligent service capable of performing a wide range of functions. This includes showcasing movie cast bios, setting calendar reminders, restaurant suggestions, in addition to the ability to buy tickets for concerts.

Other Android 7 Features

In addition to the multi-window feature, the Android 7.0 Nougat will feature enhanced notifications, improved doze mode, modified settings menu, quick updates and additional stock wallpapers.
