OnePlus earlier announced that Android Marshmallow update would arrive on the OnePlus X by this week. And the company has indeed lived up to that promise, as it has released the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OTA update today for the OnePlus X.
Being an incremental upgrade, the company says that the over-the-air update will reach a small chunk of users today, and will begin a broader rollout in the next few days. The upcoming Android build is to arrive as a part of OxygenOS 3.1.1. OnePlus X users currently running versions 2.2.3, 3.1.0, or 3.1.1 can update directly.
Besides the new Android version, the update brings new features such as additional icon packs for the launcher, Google search bar UI customization, along with new settings for the Alert slider. Besides, it also gets shelf UX improvements as users can now long press boards to remove or rearrange. Besides, two new apps will pop-up which include OnePlus Music Player and OnePlus Gallery. In addition, we expect the upcoming update to come baked with general bug fixes and performance improvements, alongside October security patches.
In other related news, OnePlus announced its plans to open an experience center in Bengaluru, India. As right now, the Chinese manufacturer only sells its phones through an online medium. Notably, it will also be the company’s first-ever experience store in the world. As even in its home country China, OnePlus sells its phones online. And being the company’s first offline buying store, it will also allow consumers to use and experience OnePlus before they decide to buy it. The company further added that if the venture turns out to be a success, OnePlus will open more these experience stores in India where users can try and use its devices.

Considering the popularity of OnePlus devices in India, it is indeed a good move by the company. Earlier this year, the company also decided to start manufacturing phones in the country, and now with the addition of experience stores, the company certainly seems to be taking the Indian market seriously. And why not, as India is touted as one of the most lucrative smartphone markets in the world.
Besides, industry sources also suggest the company’s next flagship, which will likely be called the OnePlus 4 is expected to come with Snapdragon 830 processor, 8GB RAM, and 4K OLED display in 2017.
