Xiaomi Mi 4, Mi 4i, Mi 4c, Mi Note Android 6.0 Marshmallow software update details

Xiaomi rolled out Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update for Mi 4 soon after Mi Note over-the-air (OTA) update. According to the reports coming in, Xiaomi’s both all Mi and Redmi lineup will start receiving Android 6.0.1 instead of Android 6.0.

With the build number — MMB29M, the latest update comes with a size around 100MB and bears a new version of MIUI 7.

According to Xiaomi’s MIUI operations manager, Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is currently in its final testing stages and will start rolling out soon to a wide range of Xiaomi devices i.e. Mi 4i, Mi 4c, Note 2, Redmi 2, Mi Note Pro.

He also revealed that the new update will be a welcome change for those users who were disappointed when Xiaomi released MIUI 7 ROM based on Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Recently, an image surfaced on a popular social networking site, Weibo, showcased MIUI 5.12.24 update based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and was found to be around 518MB.

While Xiaomi Mi 4 was launched in 2014 with Android KitKat, Mi Note was launched in 2015 with similar software as Mi 4. Interestingly, Xiaomi released Android Lollipop based MIUI 7 updates for both handsets in October 2015.

To install Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow on Xiaomi Mi4, you need to select Download from the notification which appears on your device and press Restart and Install button.

Your device will be upgraded automatically, and you will be able to work with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow after the completion of installation.

Alternatively, you can also verify whether the update is available for your device by selecting Check for Update option from About Phone section on the Settings page.

As of writing this, only devices in China have received Android Marshmallow updates, which will be released in a phased manner and completed in the next few weeks.
