Hosting an event at the congress for the first time, Wanqiang Li, Xiaomi’s Senior Vice President also confirmed the release date on a social networking portal, which was followed by Xiaomi Global VP Hugo Barra and India Head Manu Kumar Jain via a tweet.

On the contrary, leaked specifications on January 17 revealed 3GB RAM with Snapdragon 820 chipset running Android 6.0 Marshmallow. While the single-core test scored 2182, the multi-core test posted a huge 4892 as per Geekbench 3.2.5 results. Running at a speed of 1.59GHz on 4 cores, the motherboard feature an entry like msm8996.
Likely to be equipped with a 5.7-inch IPS curved (2560 x 1440) display with Full HD resolution, the leaked image of the Mi5 home screen features two network bars to indicate dual-SIM support and NFC icon.
However, the icons appear in Chinese language but it resembles the same look and feel as seen in previous Mi smartphones. Interestingly, there are rumors that Mi 5 will be featured with a display size between 5.2-inch to 5.5-inch instead of 5.7-inch.
Sporting a physical home button, the Mi5 will feature 3D touch technology, which allows for pressure-sensitive interaction with the screen. Previously, there was a rumor of the inclusion of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Sense ID 3D fingerprint technology but it seems that Xiaomi has skipped it since it is evident from the presence of a home button. However, we could spot a rounded circle on the rear of the display which should be that of the fingerprint sensor.
Coming to camera department, the Mi 5 includes a centrally positioned circular camera unit flanked by a laser autofocus module and LED flash. Expected to be integrated with a 16MP rear and 6MP front-facing camera, the upcoming Mi5 will also include a Type-C USB port. However, there were rumors that Mi5 will ship with a 20MP rear camera and 8MP front-facing camera.
Expected to be powered by a 3,800mAh battery, the Mi 5 is expected to ship with a metal unibody design with a thickness of 6.95mm.
If rumors are to be believed, Foxconn workers are spending long work hours to keep enough stock of the device since Xiaomi predicts huge demand for Mi5 higher than what they got during the release of the previous counterpart.
