Symantec Corporation to double cyber security experts at Chennai SOC, invests $50 million

An American technology company, Symantec Corporation announced that it will invest more than $50 million to double the number of cyber security experts and professional at its Chennai Security Operations Centre (SOC) to more than 200 employees over the next year, citing a crucial requirement to augment capacity to address the increasing cyber threats worldwide.

The Senior Director of Cyber Security Services at Symantec – Peter Sparkes said, “We will double our cyber security expert in the Chennai SOC within one year.”

Chennai is the Symantec’s largest security centre in Asia-Pacific and Japan region, which includes Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo, operating 24×7.

According to Symantec executives, India was one of the most venerable areas to cyber security. Symantec’s SOC monitoring showed Indian had 38,391 cyber threats, or a third if the 97,913 threats across Asia.

The $50 million business plan also includes the Singapore SOC, which was inaugurated yesterday. Symantec will also expand its Tokyo SOC and set up new centres in Europe over the next year.

The Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cyber Security at Symantec – Mr Samir Kapuria said that today’s technology alone may not help in stopping advanced threats. Therefore, organisations need security professionals on hand to understand and prioritise the dangerous events that need action.
