Sony Xperia X Compact and Xperia XZ confirmed, launch expected at IFA 2016

Sony is reportedly preparing to launch two new smartphones in its Xperia X line-up. The information is leaked from the company’s Czech website which has already listed the upcoming Sony X Compact and Sony Xperia XZ. However, the site has not provided any info about the specifications of the two handsets. The Japanese manufacturer has an event scheduled in Berlin just before the IFA 2016. We expect the new devices to launch at this event scheduled for September 1.

This year, Sony has dropped its Xperia Z series and replaced it with the brand new Xperia X range of smartphones. Till now, the company has launched quite a number of handsets in its new series which range from the mid-ranger Xperia XA to the flagship Xperia X Performance. Other smartphones in the Xperia X series include the upper mid-range Xperia X and the massive Xperia XA Ultra phablet.

Sony Xperia X Compact Specs

The upcoming Sony Xperia X Compact, as the name suggests will be a small device with sub 5-inch display. Speculations indicate that it will sport a 4.6-inch HD (1280 x 720) screen. The forthcoming smartphone is presumed to be an upper mid-range one powered by the Snapdragon 650 or 652 SoC. But going by Sony’s track record, this may even turn out to be a full-fledged flagship device and come with the high-end Snapdragon 820 or 821 chip.

Sony Xperia XZ Specs

On the other hand, we do not have any reliable info about the forthcoming Xperia XZ. According to some sources, this may be the same Sony device that leaked earlier with the code name “F8331”. Although the F8331 was termed as the Xperia XR at the time of its leak, it may be called as the Xperia XZ.

The F8331 was seen sporting a 5.1-inch Full HD display, same as the Xperia X. The leaked device was listed in GFXBench’s database with the mighty Snapdragon 820 chipset. The forthcoming smartphone is presumed to sport 3 GB LPDDR4 RAM along with 32 GB of internal memory. The F8331 was listed with the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Operating System.

The primary camera of the phone will be a 21 MP unit with support for 4K video recording. The selfie camera is expected to be a beefy 12 MP lens and also possess 4K shooting capabilities. The forthcoming device will sport the latest Type-C USB port. Although we don’t have any information about the pricing of the new smartphones, we expect them to carry a pretty hefty price tag.
