Qualcomm has announced the roadmap for the internals of the 2017 Android smartphones. The company has revealed that its forthcoming processor for Android handsets will be named as Snapdragon 835. Moreover, the processor will be fabricated by Samsung on a 10nm FinFET manufacturing process. The processor giant also announced the specifics of Quick Charge 4.0.
Expected to replace Snapdragon 820 and 821, the handsets manufactured using the new Snapdragon 835 will be showcased at the Mobile World Congress trade show in February 2017. As of writing this, we don’t have any information about the new chipset. According to Qualcomm, the production of the new processor is going on in full swing.
Since Samsung is involved in the manufacturing process, we expect the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge to ship with the new chipset. According to industry analysts, the production carried out by Samsung signals the strong partnership between both Samsung and Qualcomm. However, they compete in their own respective fields very heavily. This is because Samsung itself manufactures ARM-based Exynos processors.
Snapdragon 835 processor will consume less power
The new Snapdragon 835 processor designed with the 10nm process will be capable of consuming less power and enhanced efficiency without causing any hurdles to performance. In a statement, Qualcomm disclosed that the Snapdragon 835 will be able to deliver up to 27 percent improved performance by drawing 40 percent less power. This is a significant improvement when compared to the 14-nm Snapdragon 820 and 821 processors.
Snapdragon 835 processor provides support for Quick Charge 4.0
The forthcoming Snapdragon 835 processor will also provide support for Quick Charge 4.0, which enables the phone to charge quickly. Qualcomm added that a five-minute charge will provide a backup of 4 to 5 hours. Hence, you will be able to charge the gadget completely in less than 30 minutes.
The upcoming Quick Charge 4.0 will be fully compliant with the USB Power Delivery standard and the USB Type-C specification. It also provides protection against overcharging.
Meanwhile, Qualcomm also announced a $15000 bug bounty program, where white hat hackers will be invited to test drive the new processors, LTE modems and other related products. To begin with, the program will be available for 40 researchers who had worked with Qualcomm before.
