There have been rumors that Samsung is set to unveil the next Galaxy Note as soon as August 2, this year. This appears to be an attempt to fend off competition from iPhone 7. The image was leaked on SamMobile on 14 June.
According to the leaks, the phone is said to have a curve edge screen, and will be released at the Galaxy Unpacked 2016 event. The image has five curved lines pointing towards ‘7’, and the phrase reads “The next edge is just around the corner.” The phrase suggests that it could be the Galaxy Note 7 Edge and not the Galaxy Note 7. The Edge variant of the phablet was left out from the Galaxy Note 5 last year due to S Pen technical issues.
This testifies a previous rumor which says that Samsung is going to skip a numerical and jump to Galaxy Note 7 from Galaxy Note 5. The event when the launch is rumored to take place is scheduled for August 2 at 8:30 PM (IST). A previous leak by Evan Blass on June 2 also indicated that the launch might be just two months away.
It is also speculated that the smartphone will come with the ability to scribble on the edges. If the reports are true, users will now be able to write on the screen as well as the curved display.
Leaked specs indicate that the phone has a 5.8-inch QHD display powered by a Snapdragon 820 or Snapdragon 823 SoC paired with 10nm 6GB of RAM module, 32GB inbuilt storage expandable via microSD card, a 12-megapixel rear camera, and a Dual Pixel setup in the front. The Galaxy Note 7 is also expected to feature an iris scanner, a fingerprint sensor, and a USB Type-C port.
The rumors and speculations around iPhone 7 have made this story even more exciting in the fan communities. The latest stories about Apple’s patents and new specs to be included might have made it the most anticipated smartphone of the year, but Samsung seems to be catching up regarding the anticipation build up.
