After an agonizing wait, Reliance Communications (RCom) has launched its 4G data tariff plans. This will surely add salt on the wounds of CDMA users who have recently upgraded to the new technology.
The Mumbai circle tariffs have been announced, and they are slightly on the higher side when compared to plans of the Maharashtra and UP circles. The price of these plans is at par with Vodafone 4G but is higher than Bharti Airtel. Mumbaikars will have to shell out Rs. 297 for 1GB while Bharti Airtel is offering the same for Rs. 265 for 28 days. Similarly, 10GB plan from Reliance costs Rs. 1,850 while Airtel is offering the same at Rs. 1505 in Mumbai.
Coming on to postpaid packs; users can get 10GB data for Rs. 1,500 and 1GB for Rs. 250. However, users will have to shell out an additional 14% as taxes in addition to the above rates.
The latest plans from the company come as a rude shock for CDMA subscribers who were expecting the service provider to continue to offer cheap data rates as compared to its competitors like Airtel or Vodafone. Users who were on CDMA technology were getting anywhere in between 15GB to 24GB for Rs. 1,000 per month. RCom had offered its CDMA consumers, 40GB for Rs. 999 in the postpaid segment.
There has been a significant shift in marketing by the Telecom giant and now it will be offering its data services as ‘premium’. It will target those consumers who are fed up with other overburdened network services in Mumbai. Most service providers in the metro city suffer from data congestion, and Reliance will not face the issue of congestion.
