German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz announced the launch of its GLC line of luxury SUV, starting at a price of Rs. 50.7 lakh for the diesel variant. The petrol variant will come in at 50.9 lakh (ex-showroom Pune).
The Mercedes GLC 220d features a 2143cc four-cylinder diesel engine capable of 170bhp while the Mercedes GLC 300 sports a 1991cc four-cylinder petrol engine capable of 245bhp. Both the variants come along with 9-speed automatic transmission with 4-wheel drive, parking assist, attention assist, adaptive brake lights and seven airbags. The boot of both variants comes with a storage capacity of 550-litres which can be put up to 1600-litres if you keep the back seats folded down.
The GLC line is the 5th launch by Mercedes-Benz, which is expected to make a total of 12 announcements this year. According to Mercedes-Benz India MD and CEO, Roland Folger, the new GLC luxury SUV will fall between the company’s GLA and GLE line, filling the gap.
The Mercedes-Benz GLC was formerly available as the Mercedes GLK SUV with a left-hand drive mechanism. The renewed version of the car is inspired by the Mercedes C-class and hence gets the name GLC. Apart from coming with a left-hand drive, the new SUV looks much like its C-class cousin with chrome grilles on the face and similar headlights as the C-class sedan. The taillight seems to be inspired by the Mercedes AMG GT.
The insides of the Mercedes-Benz GLC also resemble the svelte finish of the C-class sedan. A 7-inch infotainment screen, 20 CD stereo, Garmin- based navigation, 2 USB ports as well as Bluetooth connectivity is some of what it packs on the inside.
Reports say that the GLC is currently being brought to India as a CBU (completely built unit) and the car company is expected to begin assembling the parts from CKD (completely knocked down) units within the country in time to come.
