Huawei IFA 2016 teaser hints new sub-brand for mid-range smartphones

The IFA 2016 is officially set to kick off on September 2nd in Berlin, and Huawei released a teaser for its September 1st event. The event is supposed to take place at 10:30 am Central European Summer Time (CEST). That means it will be at 4:30am Eastern Time in the U.S. on the same day. The teaser reveals the bottom corner of a handset with a slogan “Defy Expectations”. The plans of the third largest manufacturer in the world seem to be amply clear.

Another report, citing from an interview with a Huawei executive Kevin Ho, said that the company will be introducing a new sub-brand at the IFA. Ho, President, Handset Product Line, Huawei Consumer Business Group, also said that the sub-brand will feature mid-range handsets. Huawei already owns the popular Chinese sub-brand, Honor.

Huawei Mate 9 and Huawei Nova launch expected

Other devices that the company could unveil at the event include the high-end Huawei Mate 9 and the Huawei Nova– “a phone made for women”. There has also been a word doing the rounds about a new Huawei smartwatch.

According to the AnTuTu benchmark, the Huawei Mate 9 is going to feature a 5.9-in display and a 1080 x 1920 resolution. Another area where it could differ from its predecessor is the processor- octa-core 2.6 GHz along with the Mali-T880 GPU. It also packs a 3GB of RAM along with 64GB of internal storage. The rear camera is 11MP, and the front camera is 7MP. It will come pre-installed with Android 7.0.

The Huawei Mate 8 was launched last year in December. It had a 6-inch screen that sported a 1080×1920 resolution. It had the Kirin 950 processor under the hood along with an octa-core 2.3 GHz CPU.

Speaking of flagship launches, Huawei recently launched the much talked about P9. The device features a Leica powered camera. Clearly, the phone is targeted at a camera (especially selfie) loving generation. The high-quality b/w images is surely an appeal for the #insta crowd.

Accused of being too highly priced (Rs. 39,999), the device does some justice to the camera and display aspect, however, the other specs offer too less. However, this might be a tactical pricing by the company, especially considering that they have paired with Leica. The phone is aimed at encashing the two brand names.

The buzz about the IFA 2016 is high in volume and the anticipation keeps rising.
