Low to midrange audio accessory market is a vast sea, can be hard to navigate but your search might end up with JIVE that is a newly released in-ear earphones by Brainwavz. Brainwavz is a well-established and popular brand in the United States, however, a new entrant in the Indian market.
These earphones come in both iOS and Android versions. So make sure you pay attention to the OS compatibility that affects the in-line controls when ordering these. It comes in three colors – Red, Green, and Blue. The unit we reviewed was of green color, pretty decent and easy to wear!
Aesthetically Jive arrives in a plastic box which threw off my initial impression. Inside the box, you get a sturdy carry case with Brainwavz branding on it, to ensure the safety of your earphones. It comes with a package including three sets of silicone ear tips (S, M, L) to customize the fit, one pair of super soft S/400 memory foam specialized for blocking noise and secure fit. It also includes a shirt clip and 12 months warranty card inside.
Entirely plastic made headset look elegant with torch shaped aluminum ear plugs. Rubberized cable is 1.3m long features copper plated 3.5mm L-shaped audio jack (compatible with most Android phones, tablets, MP3 player, and other audio devices), Y-split makes cable length identical to both sides with a wiggle to adjust length.
The surprise element was the microphone with three controls, which many of the pool doesn’t feature. Mid one is to play and pause the music while + and – functions to forward and reverse the song if pressed long. And by pressing once, it works to choose next and the previous song out of a list if you are using iOS compatibles in the Android devices, else they function to control the volume level.
Regarding look and feel Brainwavz Jive has been meticulously crafted out of high-quality metal and designed with a sleek and sophisticated shape to give listeners a crisp, smooth and accurate playback of any music.
To customize your comfort as mentioned above it comes four pairs of ear tips. For me, the most comfortable pair from the set was the memory foam. It doesn’t pop out of ear easily and blocks most of the noise.
As far as sound quality goes, it knocked performance out of the park. I tried a variety of music with JIVE, and it pumped out so perfect sound that one can be blown away by the sound quality and the comfort you get. Isolation is amazing keeping the treble pretty good. Though the music is little short on bass but you get crisp vocals. So if you are a fan of bass heavy sound signature then probably should look for other options.
If I have to list down the good and the bad about the earphones, it would be:
Pros:
- Sturdy carry case
- Sleek and light weight
- Microphone with Controls
- Clear and detailed sound
- Doesn’t pop out of ear easily
- Pitch perfect highs and smooth mids
Cons:
- Earphone has mild bass
- Lean rounded cable tangles easily
