Best Bluetooth Earphones: Brainwavz BLU-100 hands-on review

Brainwavz Audio, which predominantly focuses premium-quality earphones (IEMs) and other audio related accessories, recently delivered us the Brainwavz BLU-100 in-ear Bluetooth 4.0 earphones to review. The pair of Brainwavz in-ears saved our inner audiophiles from erupting for another “Operation IEM” in search of best music-oriented earphones.

The Brainwavz BLU-100 works with aptX audio coding, allowing high-quality audio streaming over Bluetooth connectivity between two devices. The design of the earphones doesn’t feel heavy. However, good-quality materials used to build these earphones make it look stylish and premium.

If you’re a regular Brainwavz user, you must be knowing it already that most of its earphones, including BLU-100, come along with its signature premium earphone case and S-400 Premium foam tips.

Unboxing

In addition to offering as mentioned above, Brainwavz BLU-100 also packs three pairs of ear tips in sizes such as small, medium and large. The box also contains a silicone ear clip, a Micro USB cable for charging, an instruction manual and warranty card.

Getting started

As soon as I unboxed the earphones, I did connect it to my computer using Micro USB cable for charging. You can also use any standard Micro USB charger that comes along with your phone. It took me around 2 hours 25 minutes to fully charge the earphones.

While charging the earphones, an LED indicator hidden underneath the bottom of the remote control keeps on blinking and stops once it’s fully charged. However, LED indicator was not easily discoverable in the first place; hence I found it pretty confusing whether the charging is done or not. Same was the case when I powered on the earphones for the first time.

Design

Considering the design aspects, Brainwavz BLU-100 looks extremely premium and stylish. The Brainwavz logo can be found at the back of a left earpiece. There is a three button panel on the remote control that performs numerous operations.

The (+) and () sign buttons can be used to turn up/down the volume upon the quick press. They can also be used to play the next/previous song if pressed for 3 seconds. These buttons can additionally activate/deactivate voice dial if pressed for 3 seconds.

The middle button can be used to end/answer phone calls upon the quick press. Upon two quick presses, you can easily re-dial the most recent contact number. In case you are listening to songs, a quick press can play/pause the current track. If you are not interested in answering the incoming phone call, you just need to press the middle button for 2 seconds.

To power on/off the earphones, you need to press the middle button for 3 seconds and 2 seconds respectively. For achieving Bluetooth connectivity, you need to keep the middle button pressed for 5 seconds. However, all these operations are fairly confusing in the beginning. Trust me. It took me around three days to get used to its controls.

Brainwavz BLU-100 earphones are quite comfy in terms of design. The set itself looks unique compared to other IEMs at such price point. The BLU-100 earphones are powered by dynamic 8mm drivers with a frequency response of 20 – 20,000Hz.

Pairing

The pairing process is fairly easy with Brainwavz BLU-100. First you need to enable Bluetooth on your phone. Once this is done, you simply need to power on the earphones and keep the middle button on the remote control pressed for 5 seconds to scan through the list of available devices and connect.

Performance

The noise isolation in BLU-100 is very high. As a result, one needs to keep his/her speaking volume low. However, this can be problematic while making phone calls from crowded places. The BLU-100 earphones offer Bluetooth connectivity up to 30ft, which you can expect if your earphones are fully charged.

The microphone quality failed to disappoint me with its clean and clear output during phone calls. Its sound quality will not let down your expectations. Even though I won’t call it the best sounding earphones ever, its sound quality is definitely above average in terms of its features and price point.

The 60mAh Li-ion battery could last up to 3 hours 45 minutes upon continuous usage.
