Apple Inc has increased the speculations about its plan to develop automobile, by registering domain names related to automobiles such as apple.auto and apple.cars in the month of December.
This news was first reported on Friday by MacRumors but stated that it might be related to CarPlay through which drivers can make calls, listen as well as access contacts on iPhones.
Although the automotive ambitions of Apple extend beyond CarPlay, there are too many rumors about the company working on its electric vehicle codenamed ‘Project Titan’. While it never acknowledges its plan of building a car openly, the company has aggressively recruited auto experts from renowned companies like Mercedes-Benz and Ford.
Apple is always known to frequently register trademarks, domains, patents and more, even though it doesn’t use them. For instance, the email ID domains@apple.com has an association with around 13,000 domain names, while Apple Inc. has an association with just 9,000.
Earlier this year, it was reported by AppleInsider that the development of ‘Project Titan’ is in process at a secret facility in Sunnywale code-named ‘SG5’.
Some evidence suggests that a shell company named SixtyEight might be working with Apple at its Sunnyvale Garage.
The target ship date for Apple’s electric car Project is 2019, but rumors add that the First-Gen model wouldn’t be a self-driving one. Currently, 600 people are working on the project, but a go-ahead has been given for increasing the team size to 1800, which is triple the size.
