Apple iPad 2017 will have larger display and no home button

Apple is expected to launch a new iPad with reduced bezel, increased display without any physical home button. Even though there were rumors about the launch of refreshed iPad models at the recently concluded Mac event, it didn’t occur. The latest news is that the Cupertino-based tech giant is gearing up to launch a new iPad before the first quarter of 2017.

According to Macotakara, the upcoming iPad will flaunt a 10.9-inch display. However, the tablet will be of the same size as the 9.7-inch iPad Pro. The iPad will be designed in such a way to reduce the display size by decreasing the bezels from the side panel.

You will not find any changes in the top bezel where the FaceTime camera is located. However, the side and the bottom bezel will be thinner to a large extent. Apple will completely remove the Home button so that the design team will be able to accommodate a larger display.

Meanwhile, Apple is also planning to remove the home button in iPhone 8 also. As rumored, you can expect a huge change in the design and layout of iPhone 2017 because the company wants to celebrate the 10th anniversary of iPhone in a grand way. If reports are to be believed, the iPhone 8 is expected to feature a bezel-less curved OLED display integrated with an optical fingerprint sensor.

The forthcoming iPad will be little thicker than the currently available iPad. Industry analysts feel that this method is employed to infuse a new reduced bezel design. According to rumors, the thickness of the new 10.9-inch iPad will be set at 7.5mm to accommodate the new design.

Although we can partially confirm about the addition of OLED display in iPhone 8, there is no viable information about the integration of OLD panel in iPad. If Apple decides to infuse OLED in iPad, then the cost will increase substantially. Moreover, the production cost will increase double fold. Hence, it will not be practically feasible to manufacture a tablet with OLED display.
