Amazon India has launched the Prime subscription service in the country at Rs. 499 per year after the 60-day free trial. Even though the actual cost of Amazon Prime in India will be Rs. 999 per year, Amazon has fixed the rate at Rs. 499 in a bid to attract customers. However, we don’t have any information as to for how long the inaugural price will be valid.
Commenting on the launch of Amazon Prime in India, Greg Greeley, Vice-President Worldwide Prime, Amazon revealed that ever since the launch of Prime service in every country, millions of items are regularly added to the ever growing catalog. Moreover, products will reach the doorsteps of customers within few days incredibly fast and free.
Amazon Prime Benefits
Amazon Prime includes unlimited one-day and two-day delivery without any minimum order limit. Currently, you have to add products on or above Rs. 499 to avail free shipping.
With Amazon Prime, you can buy any product without any restriction. You can pick any product from Amazon with no minimum order limit. Moreover, you will be eligible to access early lightning deals on Amazon including exclusive Prime only deals.
Amazon Prime members can also enjoy discounted same-day, morning and scheduled delivery to select pin codes in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and more cities across India. You will be able to view all the delivery options for Prime members for your specific order at Checkout stage.
Meanwhile, Amazon is planning to launch exclusive video service named Amazon Video in the next few months. In the US, both Amazon Video and Amazon Music are available as a benefit for Prime members. It remains to be seen as to when Amazon Music will launch in India.
Greeley further added that the company has introduced digital benefits like Prime Video, which features Amazon exclusive original series and movies. However, the launch of video service will take few more months.
Amazon Prime Eligibility
You should pick products listed on Amazon with Prime logo on it. If you can view the logo, the product is eligible for free shipping provided you are a member of Amazon Prime program. As of writing this, almost every product that is fulfilled by Amazon is eligible for Prime.
As you can view from the above figure, only two products marked with Prime logo are eligible for faster delivery depending upon location and free shipping.
Although you can avail free shipping under Amazon Prime, you need to be located in any one of the 20 cities across India to get the benefit of one-day or two-day delivery. Amazon hasn’t provided the list of cities. You have to add products to your shopping cart to check for the eligibility.
If you would like to avail faster delivery to other cities, you need to pay Rs. 50 for same-day, morning, and scheduled deliveries as against a charge of Rs. 150 for non-Prime members.

To join Amazon Prime, navigate to Amazon India page and select Try Prime link located below the logo. Select “Start your 60-day free trial” button, log in to your account.
You can now enjoy all the privileges of Amazon Prime, which includes free shipping and faster delivery times. While placing an order, you will view the approximate delivery timeline with “FREE Delivery with Prime” reference. Amazon has provided free trial for 2 months to enable you to test the service before payment of Rs. 499.
