Xiaomi Mi 20000mAh Power bank Review: Another value-packed offering from Xiaomi

Xiaomi 20,000mAh Power Bank (5)

For a person who often travels and is always on the move, having a power bank readily available is pretty significant. Xiaomi’s latest power bank appears to be tailor-made for such people, as it comes with a beefy 20,000mAh battery – apparently the largest battery capacity in this product category. The Chinese manufacturer has a knack making well-built, value-packed devices, and the latest power bank is yet another example of that. Priced at Rs. 2,199 on Mi.com, it’s rather cheap for a power bank this size.

But how does it perform in day to day usage? The device has finally arrived in our test lab. Here are my thoughts about the Xiaomi Mi 20000mAh Power Bank after spending a good amount of time with it.

Build and Design

It looks like a rectangular block sporting streamlined design aesthetics. With rounded edges and a textured surface, the power bank feels good in the hand and allows for a better grip. It’s not nearly as slippery as the anodized aluminum casing we saw with its predecessors, and the new ABS plastic casing lends it an elegant look. The plastic body also helps reduce the overall weight of the device. And at 338, it’s 12 grams lighter than the 16,000mAh variant.

That being said, it’s not the easiest thing to carry around in your pocket. It’s tall and weighs almost two times a standard 10,000 mAh power bank. However, it’s not a difficult thing to carry around in a small backpack or a rucksack.

Performance and Features

With 20,000 mAh of power, this one can charge several devices with enough juice left for other devices. I was able to charge my Nexus 4 around half a dozen times, and the power bank still had some juice left. With so much fuel, it makes an ideal choice for people who travel quite often, as it gives a reassuring feeling that you’ll always have sufficient power even while on the move. You can also use it to charge large devices like an iPad or any other Android tablet.

However, given the sheer size, it takes a good 11-12 hours to get fully charged. Thankfully, it does get Quick Charge 2.0 for the input port. As using the 18W charger, I found that the charging time was relatively less at about 8-9 hours.

The right edge also houses a power button which you can tap to check charging levels. The four LED indicators on top depict how much battery back-up is left. If all four LEDs are on, it means the power bank is fully charged. While if only two are on, it implies the device has 50 percent charge remaining.

The power bank comes with dual Li-Ion high-quality batteries from LG and Panasonic along with 9S circuit protection from Texas Instruments. Now, this keeps a check on irregularities in the power supply to ensure your devices are secure from short circuits or getting overcharged. All these features make the device rather safe and reliable.

Wrap Up:

Xiaomi’s 20000mAh power bank is tailor-made for the likes of travelers and for people who are always on the move. The long charging time could be a bummer for some, but it also gets you more longevity. At Rs. 2,199, it’s relatively cheap and should be one of your itineraries the next time you’re planning to hit the roads. The only problem could be limited availability and after sales services, which has always been the case with Xiaomi devices.
