What an Idea, Sirji! Google partners with Idea cellular to bring Carrier Pay on Play Store

Here’s something we all (all who have smartphones, anyway) had thought of, at some point or the other. Idea has teamed up with google to allow its users to pay for the content on the Google Play Store, without having to go through any immediate and extra trouble. That’s right! Now, Idea postpaid users can just choose to add the amount to their bill amount for their phones, and prepaid users can pay using their mobile balance.

This not only provides an ease of purchase, but also a secure gateway for the same.  Mike Hayes, Director, Business Development, Android & Chrome Partnerships at Google, has been quoted saying this collaboration will not only make it easier for the users, but also “give a boost to the developer ecosystem in India.” It will allow app and software developers to expand their business quicker and at lower costs.

Idea CEO has also admitted that their current capacity is 880 million users, and their current number of users in the country is close to 175 million. This means that they have already geared up for a massive rise in traffic. On account of this, we can surely expect the company to come up with more such business calls in the near future.

With their recent ventures with Microsoft and RoVio (makers of Angry Birds), Idea now pose a greater threat to the country’s leading cellular service providers Airtel and Vodafone. Only time will tell as to what impact this has on the share market tomorrow, but it sure looks promising for Idea Cellular.
