Skoda Kodiaq crossover revealed in sketches: Launch date, feature, price details

Ahead of its launch later this year, Skoda Kodiaq has been rendered in the digital form. The Yeti’s big brother is closing in on the release date and, in the build up to its debut in September this year, Skoda has released design sketches of the SUV. As seen in the images, most of the design bits from the VisionS concept have been kept and the production-spec Kodiaq is set to resemble the Superb.

Based on the VW group’s MQB architecture, the Kodiaq is the Tiguan’s sister. The VisionS concept had a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine powered two electric motors placed on the front and rear axles each. The combined power output is said to be over 220PS. The production version is likely to derive its engine and transmission options from the Superb, which includes the 2.0-litre TSI (petrol) and TDI (diesel) engines. It appears as if the 4×4 drive won’t just be some big and muscly soft-roader.

The front fascia has a trademark grille, LED tail lights and a smoothly sloping roofline. The concept car is 4.7m x1.91m x 1.68m.

The cabin in the VisionS concept featured exciting elements like a touchscreen infotainment system planted on the front passenger’s side along with more touchscreens on the headrests and door pads. The 7-seater Kodiaq could borrow its interior design and features from the Superb. This includes the power adjustable and ventilated front seats, an automatic climate control, a sunroof, and audio controls mounted on the screen.

The Global launch of this beast is supposed to take place at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. So the expected launch date in India could be around the end of the next year. The details about the interior shall remain undisclosed until it is officially launched.
