Samsung Z2 Tizen smartphone India launch confirmed for August 23

Korean giant Samsung has sent out media invites for an event on Tuesday, August 23, where we could see the launch of its next entry level Tizen-based smartphone – the Samsung Z2. The invite says “Samsung’s next meaningful innovation is here, Samsung India cordially invites you for the unveiling of its next smartphone.” The invite, however, doesn’t specifically mention the launch of Z2, but Samsung has been long expected to launch the entry-level Tizen smartphone. The Z2 will be the third Tizen-based smartphone to be launched in India, as Samsung has already launched two Tizen 0S based smartphones in India – the Samsung Z1 and Samsung Z3.

Samsung Z2 Tizen Smartphone Specifications

Coming to the specifications, the upcoming Samsung Z2 is expected to feature a 3.97-inch WVGA display. Under the hood, the smartphone is expected to get a 1.5GHz quad-core processor bundled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of built-in storage. Optics expected on the smartphone include a 5MP rear camera along with a 0.3MP VGA front facing shooter. While juicing up the smartphone would be a 1500mAh battery. The device will run Tizen 2.4 out-of-the-box.

Meanwhile, a recently leaked officially promo video of an unannounced smartphone was shared by SamMobile, which suggests the upcoming Samsung Z2 will be the first Tizen-based smartphone to feature 4G LTE connectivity. It is also expected to get features like Ultra Data Saving Mode along with ‘My Money Transfer app, specifically created for the Indian market. The handset is also expected to come pre-installed with popular instant messaging apps which include Telegram and WhatsApp.

In terms of pricing, sources suggest the Samsung Z2 could be priced around Rs. 4,499 in the Indian market. This would put the upcoming Z2 in direct competition from the likes of Reliance Digital LYF, Intex Aqua Star, and Xolo Era 4G to name a few. While apart from India, Samsung Z2 will also be launched in other countries including India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Turkey, South Africa, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, along with the United Arab Emirates.

Samsung launched its first Tizen-based smartphone in India, the Z1, back in January last year. While in October last year, the company launched its successor – the Samsung Z3. Key specifications on the Z3 include a 5-inch HD display, a 1.3GHz quad-core processor bundled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of built-in storage expandable up to 128GB via microSD slot. Cameras on the smartphone include an 8MP primary camera along with a 5MP front-facing camera.  The device runs Tizen 2.4 and gets powered by a 2600mAh non-removable battery.
