Samsung reportedly plans to unveil Z1 Tizen phone in India on January 18

Samsung’s first Tizen-based smartphone has reportedly got a release date to be unveiled in India. Despite the initial reports that the device will be released in India sometime in December, the release date has been pushed to the new year. The device is likely to be unveiled on January 18, 2015.

Samsung is the number one smartphone manufacturer in the world. However, the company didn’t want to rely entirely on Google for its software side.

TIzen has been in the news for quite some time, but it has never made it to consumers through a device that comes pre-installed with it. This makes the Samsung Z1 the first device to come with Tizen. It also marks this launch an important one both for Samsung and Intel, along with entire smartphone industry.

Korean Economics Daily has confirmed quoting one of the Samsung officials that the first Tizen-based smartphone will retail for roughly INR 5,700 in India. The information has not been officially confirmed by Samsung as of now.

The rumored specifications of Samsung Z1 indicate that it runs on Tizen v2.3, featuring a 4-inch WVGA dTFT LCD display, a dual-core Spreadtrum SC7727S processor with the clock speed of 1.2 GHz, a Mali-400 GPU and just 512 RAM.

Rumors also suggest that Samsung Z1 will have a 3.2-MP camera on the back and 0.3 MP camera on the front. It’s also supposed to have Bluetooth 4.0, GPS/A-GPS, Wi-Fi and Micro-USB port.
