Samsung Galaxy S8+ Release Date, Specs, Features and Rumors

galaxy s8+ release date and rumors

The rumor mill is abuzz with the much-anticipated launch of the Galaxy S8 on March 29. However, a recent report reveals a plus sized variant of the smartphone, called the Galaxy S8+. Some sources even claim that the handset was recently spotted on the company’s India support page. The listing shows a smartphone with the model number SM-G955D, and also points towards a dual-SIM variant of the smartphone. That said, the listing doesn’t reveal anything about the handset’s specifications.

The listing builds upon a report that surfaced last week about Samsung ditching the Edge logo in favor of the + branding. As you might have already figured out, the Galaxy S8+ is a plus-sized model expected to launch alongside the standard variant. The handset is expected to pack a massive 6.2-inch display with dual-curved edges, much like its predecessor the Galaxy S7 Edge.

Galaxy S8+ Specs and Features

As already mentioned, the Galaxy S8+ is likely to pack a much larger display compared to last year’s model. The smartphone is expected to feature a 6.2-inch AMOLED dual-edge curved display with a QHD resolution.

Besides, it’s said to run either a Snapdragon 835 or Samsung’s homegrown Exynos 8895 processor bundled with 6GB of RAM. As far as storage goes, the Galaxy S8+ is likely to pack 128GB of built-in storage further expandable via microSD slot.

In terms of cameras, it’s still unclear whether the Galaxy S8+ gets the same cameras as its standard model, which is expected to come with a 12MP primary camera with f/1.7 aperture along with an 8MP selfie shooter. With Samsung opting for the latest Snapdragon 835 processor, the larger Galaxy S8+ could come fitted with a dual-camera setup. However, exact details about the phone’s camera remain unknown.

The Galaxy S8+ is also said to get powered by a 3750mAh battery, along with wireless charging capabilities. Other features expected include an Iris scanner along with a rear fingerprint sensor. The smartphone is also expected to come with USB-Type connectivity for charging and data transfer. SamMobile reports that the dual-SIM variant of the Galaxy S8+ is targeted at the Indian market. In the US, we can expect Samsung to launch just the single-SIM variant of the handset.

In comparison, the standard Galaxy S8 is said to feature a 5.8-inch QHD Super AMOLED display. Under the hood, the smartphone is likely to feature either an Exynos 8895 or Snapdragon CPU bundled with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, and a 3,250mAh battery. It is also worth noting that both the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ are said to pack larger displays than their previous iterations.

Galaxy S8+ Release Date

Unlike last year, Samsung has opted not to unveil its upcoming Galaxy S8 flagship at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2017. As multiple reports, including a recent report from the Wall Street Journal, claim Samsung is expected to launch both the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ at an event on March 29.
