Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime Initial Impressions and Hands-on

Xiaomi has launched Redmi 3S Prime in India with 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage and fingerprint sensor at Rs. 8,999. The main USP of the smartphone is the integration of a powerful 4100mAh battery coupled with a fingerprint sensor and full metal unibody. Xiaomi has cracked the market by introducing a fingerprint scanner in a budget device under Rs. 10,000.

Display

Redmi 3S Prime is equipped with a 5-inch HD IPS display, which is higher than the currently available Redmi 2. The display is designed to reduce the harmful blue light rays and includes color temperature adjustment.

Performance

Camera

Talking about imaging, the Redmi 3S Prime comes with 13MP 5-piece lens camera with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, HDR, Panorama, Straighten, 12 real-time filters, countdown timer, and manual mode. The smartphone includes 5MP front-facing snapper with f/2.2 aperture, 36 smart beautify profiles, face recognition in addition to FHD video recording capability.

Battery

Advanced features

Redmi 3S Prime includes a fingerprint sensor on the ear, which enables you to unlock the device quickly. The availability of a fingerprint sensor in a budget device is seen a positive trend by industry analysts.

Operating System

Redmi 3S Prime is loaded with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow paired with MIUI 7.3. However, you will be able to upgrade to MIUI 8 by the middle of August. You will be able to experience all the latest features included with Android M with the smartphone.

Price

Xiaomi has priced Redmi 3S Prime at a competitive rate of Rs. 8,999. You will not get a budget device with 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, fingerprint sensor and a 4100mAh battery for under Rs. 9,000.

Conclusion

If you are a beginner and would like to experience the features of the latest Android platform, you can consider Redmi 3S. You should note that the processor and graphics are low-end compared to Redmi Note 3. If you are a power user and gamer, the Redmi 3S will not suit you since it offers only HD display. The new device will be beneficial for students, beginners, and senior citizens.
