OnePlus 3T hands-on and initial impressions

The Never Settle tagline is indeed apt for OnePlus. Within six months of the release of flagship OnePlus 3 smartphone, the company released named OnePlus 3T in the US, UK, Canada and other parts of the world. India was excluded from the list during the launch. However, the company has officially launched OnePlus 3T in India starting at Rs. 29,999 for 64GB. However, you have to pay Rs. 34,999 for the 128GB storage model.

Design and Display

OnePlus 3T is designed using a premium space-grade aluminum alloy. Hence, the handset looks sleek and polished. If you pick the handset, you will feel the goodness of minimalistic all-metal build in Gunmetal color variant.

OnePlus 3T features a 5.5-inch Optic AMOLED FHD Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protected display with a pixel density of 401PPI. The unique night mode provides an ability to filter blue light. This will reduce eye strain to a large extent.

Internals

OnePlus 3T is equipped with a Snapdragon 821 processor, Adreno 530 graphics, 6GB RAM, 64GB/128GB UFS 2.0 storage. While the OnePlus 3 ships only with 64GB storage, the OnePlus 3T is available in 128GB storage variant at a higher price. The higher storage space will be very useful since you will not be able to expand the storage using microSD card.

Imaging

OnePlus 3T ships with 16MP camera sensor in both rear and front. Hence, you will be able to capture brilliant selfies. The difference is the kind of sensor integrated into the camera. The rear camera provides Sony IMX 298 sensor, while the front-facing snapper comes with a Samsung 3P8SP sensor.

Power

OnePlus 3T offers a 3400mAh battery. This is higher than the battery capacity provided with OnePlus 3. The company has integrated dash charging technology into the OnePlus 3T as well. The main purpose of this technology is to redirect all the heat back to the adapter. This will substantially decrease heat to a large extent.

Operating Platform

If you think OnePlus 3T ships with Android Nougat, you are wrong. The handset is loaded with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. However, the company had promised to provide an update to Android Nougat before the end of 2016.

OnePlus 3T features a refreshed version of OxygenOS, which provides support for all the core functionalities of Android. It also adds a wide range of customization options. The main advantage of OxygenOS is that its light weight than stock Android.

Verdict

OnePlus 3T is a great smartphone if you are looking for a handset with premium features. The large storage adds excellence to the phone. If you have a huge budget to buy a smartphone, you should invest for OnePlus 3T. If you compare with iPhone 7, the cost is less. Moreover, you will get a smartphone with an enhanced display than iPhone 7.
