Nokia XL, as I previously called it a phone, which is meant to be for selife lovers. It’s the upcoming one from Nokia + Microsoft family, and third in the series of Nokia X Android smartphones. Today, we got hands-on with Nokia XL at the Taj Lands End Hotel in Mumbai, where the #GoNokiaXL press meet took place.
Overview
Looking at its hardware and technical specifications, Nokia XL sports has 5-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution size of 800×480 pixels and comes powered by 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor.
It is incorporated with 768MB RAM and 4GB of internal memory that can be expanded to 32GB using a microSD card.
It has a 5-megapixel rear camera and a secondary camera too to support video calling. All this is packed with a 2,000- mAh battery. Although the Nokia X response in India was of mixed bag.
The connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS with A-GPS. It runs Android, but the login and app data is tied to One Drive cloud service.
Our Take:
Nokia XL has a descent form factor at its peak. We got to play with different color shades for the same include yellow, blue, green, orange, white, and black.
We demonstrated several internal as well as externals part of this smartphone. Talking about its internal segments, it has got a clean design and configuration for Dual sim slots, battery and a micro SD card slot.
You won’t find its 5-inch display smooth enough to play with, in case you are regular with Android devices from manufacturers like Samsung, HTC, Micromax etc.
It could be either due to its user interface, which we found very simple, minimalistic and user friendly, or system’s functionality. Putting fullstops at the end of media speculations with its multitasking approach, Nokia XL does support multitasking with its “Long press to main menu factor”.
You will find its features similar to any traditional Android device available today, but not entirely. Nokia and Microsoft has its own blueprints and system implementation strategies, which we think can not be compared with other players.
However, we didn’t understand why Nokia / Microsoft did not introduce Nokia XL with 4.4 Kitkat update, or at least with Android 4.3, which is the latest one in the Jelly Bean segment, instead of Android 4.1.2, which is quite old for now.
