The competition between mid-priced phones remains ever increasing. Both the Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 launched this month and are about to go neck-to -neck in terms of sales. The Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus will be available at a price of Rs. 8,499 and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 is available to purchase online at a price of Rs. 9999 for the base model.
The Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus will only be available for sale on Flipkart starting the 23rd of March 2016, at 12 p.m.
In November last year, Xiaomi announced the Redmi Note 3 with a MediaTek MT6795 Helio X10 chipset. At the MWC 2016, they announced a new variant with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 chip, an Adreno 510 GPU and a fingerprint scanner that the previous version didn’t have.
The Redmi Note 3 has a full metal body that is well brushed with a chrome strip that runs across the edges around the phone. The fingerprint scanner is located below the camera lens at the rear end of the phone which also houses perforations for the speaker at the bottom. You’ll find a pinched ridge below the speaker to ensure the device lays slightly raised when placed on a flat surface, so the playback from the speaker isn’t muffled.
With specifications similar to the old phone, the new Xiaomi Redmi Note is available in two options, one with 16GB of internal memory and a 2GB RAM and the other with 32GB of internal memory and a 3GB RAM. Both options come with with support for 4G networks, offer Dual-Sim capabilities, sport a 5.5” Full-HD display screen, house a 16MP camera with autofocus at the rear and a 5MP front camera for photographs.
The memory on both phones can be expanded up to 128GB with a microSD card. The phone is powered by a 4000 mAh battery and is available in the colours of ‘Silver’, ‘Grey’ and ‘Gold’.
The 32Gb version of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 is available for purchase at a price of Rs. 11,999 online and ships with Android’s Lollipop v5.1 loaded onto it.
The Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus just announced in India, is yet to hit the stores. A complete run for your money, the phone doesn’t just offer good specifications but also great entertainment if you’re a VR fan. The Vibe K5 Plus is presented in a chic aluminum body and houses a 5” Full-HD screen, that’s 0.5” smaller than the Redmi Note 3.
The phone runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 chip with an Adreno 405 GPU, has a 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal memory that can be expanded up to 128GB with a micro-SD card. As mentioned earlier, the phone has a feature that allows you to convert your digital content into VR- like content allowing you to view it on VR devices. The technology used is called ‘TheaterMax’. The Vibe K5 Plus ships with Android Lollipop v5.1 loaded onto it, has a 2,750 mAh battery and will be available in the colours of Champagne Gold, Platinum Silver and Graphite Grey.
Both phones offer great specifications, in-fact the Redmi Note 3 does have an edge over the Vibe K5 Plus if you’re looking for a slightly better RAM and ROM. If you’re looking to compare their physical dimensions, the Vibe K5 plus is lighter at 143 grams and measures only 7.9mm in thickness.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 on the other hand weighs 164 grams and measures 8.7mm in thickness. Like we said in the beginning, you may find them competing neck-to-neck.
