LeEco Le 2 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 3: Which budget smartphone you should buy?

LeEco released the much awaited Le 2 on June 8. Redmi Note 3 is a premium device manufactured by Xiaomi and is a successor to the highly acclaimed Redmi Note 2. Both Le 2 and Redmi Note 3 ships with a 5.5-inch FHD display and includes exceptional features. In this article, we will compare the specifications and features of both devices.

Display

While LeEco Le 2 is equipped with a 5.5-inch FHD IPS In-Cell display, the Redmi Note 3 features a 5.5-inch FHD IPS display with support for night display, reading mode and color temperature adjustment. The In-Cell display on LeEco Le 2 offers precise touch sensitivity. Both the devices provide a pixel density of 401PPI.

Performance

In contrast with the previous counterparts, Le 2 ships with a Snapdragon 652 processor. During the launch event, LeEco informed the audience that Le 2 is the first smartphone in India to be equipped with the latest processor. We expect that with the integration of new processor, the amount of heat generated by the processor will be reduced, although we can’t tell without testing the device. If you look at Redmi Note 3, the device is powered by a Snapdragon 650 processor for both 2GB and 3GB variants coupled with Adreno 510 graphics.

On the memory front, both Le 2 and Redmi Note 3 feature 3GB RAM, which is plenty for doing all major tasks including web/app browsing and gaming. Redmi Note 3 is also available in two variants. While the 3GB model is paired with 32GB internal storage, the 2GB variant is equipped with 16GB storage. LeEco Le 2, meanwhile, ships with 32GB of internal storage, which is same as its previous counterpart, Le 1s.

Camera

While both Le 2 and Redmi Note 3 features 16MP main camera, the front-facing shooter included with Le 2 carries 8MP sensor instead of 5MP in Note 3. Based on customer feedback, LeEco has bundled a higher capacity camera unit, which enables you to capture crisp images that what you captured with the previous Le brothers.

Battery

Talking about battery power, LeEco Le 2 offers the same 3000mAh as in Le 1s with fast charging technology. However, Redmi Note 3 features a 4000mAh powerful battery.

Operating Platform

The LeEco Le 2 will be shipped with Android’s latest Marshmallow 6.0 preloaded while the Redmi Note 3 is equipped with Android 5.1 Lollipop. While Le 2 offers eUI interface, Redmi Note 3 is spruced up using MUI 7 interface. Both LeEco and Xiaomi regularly release updates via OTA.

Advanced Features

Both Le 2 and Redmi Note 3 ships with full metal unibody and a fingerprint scanner on the rear. In Le 2, you have access to audio-out only through the USB Type-C connector and it makes use of LeEco’s revolutionary CDLA or Continual Digital Lossless Audio technology. You need to buy a separate CDLA Type-C enabled earphones, which is available with LeEco for Rs. 1,990.

Price

Le 2 will be available for purchase by the end of June at Rs. 11,999 with exciting offers like a free back cover. It is highly unlikely that LeEco provides earphone for free considering the cost factor. Flipkart provides exchange offers in return for a fully functional device.

Xiaomi has priced the 3GB RAM variant at Rs. 11,999 by keeping the 2GB RAM model at Rs. 9,999. You can buy LeEco Le 1s Eco at Rs. 9,999 from Flipkart, which is same as Le 2 except processor and camera.

Conclusion

Even though LeEco Le 2 and Redmi Note 3 are available in same display size, the device differs with processor and storage capacities. In the case of Redmi Note 3, customers have a choice between 2GB and 3GB RAM variants. This will help beginners and students since they need not have to spend extra money to buy 3GB device. However with Le 2, customers are left with no choice but to opt for the only 3GB model. Le 2 includes a 5.5-inch IPS In-Cell display, which provides better readability in bright sunlight. Le 2 will be a strong competitor to Redmi Note 3 since both of them are priced equally as far as 3GB is concerned. If you are not in a hurry to buy a new smartphone, you can wait till Le 2 is available since you will get one year of free content, which is not available with Redmi Note 3.
