iFixit teardown reveals Google Pixel XL is difficult to repair than iPhone 7 and 7 Plus

The team at iFixit has revealed that Google Pixel XL is very difficult to repair than Apple iPhone 7. According to sources, the Google Pixel XL was ripped apart to find out the internal components and it was performed in a very difficult way than expected. Moreover, the handset scored a reparability score of 6 out of 10.

The score of 6 signals the fact that the Pixel XL is difficult to repair than the recently released Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. During the teardown test, both variants of iPhone scored 7 out of 10.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and Nexus 6P got reparability score of 3 and 2

Meanwhile, the points scored by iPhone 7 and Google Pixel XL are way ahead of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Nexus 6P. During the relevant tests, the Galaxy S7 and Nexus 6P scored 3 and 2.

Google Pixel XL use modular approach

According to iFixit, the teardown reveals the fact that HTC had used a modular approach to design Pixel XL. This means that most of the internal components can be easily replaced, which include the battery and camera modules.

Google Pixel XL uses TS Torx screws

Upon inspection, the battery is embedded with a removal tab and is affixed using a minimum quantity of adhesive. This will enable painless removal if required. Moreover, all the screws inside the handset are T5 Torx.

The report released by iFixit further reveals that the initial procedure required prying up a thin and poorly-supported display panel assembly. This mechanism makes the phone difficult to open. However, you can open the handset without any damage.

If you tear down Google Pixel XL, you will find that the midframe is secured by press-fit notches, which makes the removal and subsequent repairs tedious and time-consuming.

While the 32GB default variant of Google Pixel starts at Rs. 57,000, the 128GB Google Pixel XL is available at Rs. 76,000. Both Pixel and Pixel XL are available for purchase via Flipkart and other major retail stores across the country.
