Google’s Sundar Pichai to host SMB event on January 4 followed by visit to IIT Kharagpur

Sundar Pichai is not a new face as far as India in concerned. After he assumed office as Google CEO, Pichai made a strong pitch for the development of India. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s full support to his initiatives, it’s been a roller coaster ride for the search engine giant in India.

During his upcoming visit to India, Pichai will host an event for Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs) in New Delhi on January 4 in presence of Union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. Moreover, several senior officials from Google India are also expected to attend the event.

The main focus of the event will be to establish a credible partnership with India-based SMBs. At the daylong event, Pichai will interact with key business people to enable them to unlock the tremendous growth potential through the power of digital. He will also deliver a session as to how digital world could turn into a game changer hub for them. The event assumes great significance in the wake of the recent Demonetization drive with several small businesses migrating to digital payment mode.

Previously, Google had revealed that India has a huge growth potential for its SMB solutions. The company also launched the Google for Business solution in a bid to enable small businesses to find customers on the web within their local area.

Meanwhile, Pichai will also address students and faculties of IIT Kharagpur on January 5 at the Tagore Open Air Theatre. The aim of his campus visit is to relive the past and inspire the future.

Even though Pichai had visited India after assuming office as Google CEO, the visit to the IIT campus will be his first. During his visit to the Institute, he will meet officials including an interactive session with students titled “A journey back to the past to inspire the future“.

Commenting on the visit, Partha Pratim Chakraborty, Director, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur disclosed that he is one of the most-inspiring alumnus that the students look up to. The faculty members and students are extremely happy about his visit to his own alma-mater. We are ready to welcome him with open arms.

Over the past two years, Google has established an excellent presence in India. Recently, Google in association with the Ministry of Consumer Affairs has established a strategic partnership to create awareness about online safety via Digitally Safe Campaign in a bid to combat online frauds.

In the meantime, Google also created a new platform to provide free Internet services at across 400 railway stations in India. Recently, Ooty became the 100th railway station to be integrated with Google’s free Wi-Fi service. Moreover, the Google Allo app and Google Assistant has been upgraded with Hindi support. To promote video service among kids, YouTube launched an exclusive YouTube Kids app in India.

After assuming office as CEO, Pichai had visited India in December 2015. He also visited India in his capacity as Android head for the launch of Android One Project.
