In a bid to compete with Reliance Jio, the state-run BSNL has introduced ‘Experience Unlimited BB 249’, an unlimited broadband data plan for 3G users at Rs. 249 from September 9, 2016. According to BSNL, it has launched a promotional unlimited wireline broadband plan that will cost users Re. 1 per GB for up to 300GB download per month. By introducing a new wireline broadband offering, BSNL is tapping new customers to combat the Reliance Jio’s 4G offer of Rs. 50 per GB.

In a statement released to the press, BSNL revealed that the company is gearing up to launch a very cost-effective and affordable promotional unlimited Broadband plan ‘Experience Unlimited BB 249’ from September 9, 2016. As a customer, you will be able to download Broadband data without any data limits at a speed of 2Mbps.

New Unlimited plan will enhance customer experience

Commenting on the launch, BSNL chairman cum managing director Anupam Shrivastava disclosed that the plan will enhance the customer experience towards wireline broadband services. Moreover, it will attract new users to experience BSNL broadband services. He said that BSNL is the only operator, which offers lowest per GB data download plan under broadband services in the country.

Experience Unlimited BB 249: Download 300GB of data

The main advantage of ‘Experience Unlimited BB 249’ plan is that you will be able to download 300GB of data just by paying Rs. 249 at a speed of 2Mbps. Upon calculation, you will be able to know that per GB of data download cost comes out as less than Re. 2 per GB. BSNL also clarified that customers will have the option to migrate to regular broadband plan based on their choice after 6 months.

BSNL signs MOU with Telecom department

In the meantime, BSNL has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Telecom department regarding performance-based targets assigned to the telecom PSU. According to BSNL, on the basis of annual achievement vis-a-vis targets of the MoU, DPE evaluates company’s performance and accordingly refreshes the rating table.

Reliance Jio 4G to fulfill Digital India initiatives

At the recently held Reliance Industries’ 42th Annual General Meeting, Mukesh Ambani had disclosed that data cost provided to the customers should be affordable. He said that the Reliance Jio 4G plan has been designed in such a way to fulfill the ambitions of the Digital India initiatives adopted by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Ambani added that Jio 4G rates will be between Rs. 25 to Rs. 50 per GB depending upon data usage. On the contrary, the prevailing market rate is Rs. 250 per GB. He said that 2GB of 4G data under the Reliance Jio scheme will cost Rs. 299. The premium plan on 75GB 4G data will cost Rs. 4999.
