Amazon has introduced Kindle Oasis with a 6-inch high resolution 300 PPI display with leather charging cover at $289.99. Touted to be the eighth and slimmest device, the Kindle Oasis features a charger that is built into its cover. Even though you can place orders for the device, the actual shipping from Amazon warehouse will start from April 27.

Commenting on the launch, Amazon founder and CEO – Jeff Bezos disclosed that the latest product is the most advanced Kindle they have ever built. Because of thin and ultra-lightweight design structure, the new Amazon Kindle Oasis E-Book Reader will immerse users into the author’s world, adds Bezos.

While the currently available Kindle Paperwhite has 4 LEDS, the new Kindle Oasis offers 10 LEDs to provide enhanced page consistency. Moreover, the display panel has been improved by incorporating physical page turn buttons.

Manufactured using a featherweight polymer frame, the Amazon Kindle Oasis is 30% thinner and 20% lighter than the previous generation Kindle. The built-in front light has been modified to provide 60% more LED brightness by leveraging new cylindrical diffractive patterns to increase the consistency and range of screen brightness. According to Amazon, this mechanism provides an improved reading in low light conditions.

On the specifications front, Amazon Kindle Oasis EBook Reader boasts a 6-inch E-Ink 300 PPI display with built-in light, optimized font technology, 16-level grayscale, 4GB non-expandable storage, free cloud storage including a powerful battery, which has the capability to deliver 8 weeks of backup time. Moreover, the device can fully charge in less than three hours via USB cable.

The Kindle Oasis, unlike the previous counterparts, enables you to easily turn the page with either the touch display or physical page turn buttons. In addition to the ability to work with the device using both hands, the Kindle Oasis also integrates features such as Whispersync, worry-free archive, Goodreads, Word Wise, parental controls, MatchBook, In-line footnotes, and X-Ray.

Initially launched in 2007, Amazon has so far released several Kindle variants like Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Voyage, Kindle Fire tablet and most recently Echo, a line of voice activated speakers.
